This is why it's so important to unplug appliances and electronics when you are away from home. Also never leave an open flame when cooking without supervision. There are many ways you can prevent fires from happening in your home and it's important that you always take these extra precautions so you don't have to experience this type of loss. Check your smoke detectors at least once a month to make sure they are working properly and change their batteries once or twice a year.
